Amazon.com Perfect Stranger is saved from conventional starlet-in-distress mediocrity by a certain refreshing unwholesomeness, a tawdry strain that runs all the way through its climactic series of kickers. Halle Berry plays a "gotcha" reporter, currently undercover to nail a famous advertising tycoon (Bruce Willis)--not for a story, but because Berry thinks he might be involved in a friend's murder. The distasteful nature of Berry trying to seduce the married exec adds some spice, and so does her pervy assistant (Giovanni Ribisi), whose voyeuristic tendencies indicate more than customary comic relief--at the least, he's a hefty red herring. There are other red herrings, mostly beginning to smell, in the rather ramshackle script. Director James Foley, who has a talent for hothouse intensity (Glengarry Glen Ross, At Close Range) gives this material more edge than it probably deserves, although he can't make Berry convincing, and she and Ribisi are completely wrong as simpatico best friends. Willis looks good by comparison, turning a one-note role into a subtle act of professionalism. --Robert Horton

Fantastic! December 22, 2008 This movie is a lot better than I had heard. Halle Berry is awesome in this movie and I will recommend this movie to friends.
From J. Kaye's Book (and Movie) Blog December 5, 2008 What a woozer of an ending! I didn't see that one coming. The movie starts out with a missing friend who turns up dead. Rowena, an investigative reporter, played by Halle Berry puts her skills to use in order to find out what happen.
I think what makes this movie such a shocker is the killer comes completely out of left field, making the whole story unbelievable. Even so, I loved the movie. Again, maybe it's the absence of primetime that has my mind blind to the movie's obvious flaws.
Imperfect December 5, 2008 Ro (Halle Berry) is an undercover reporter looking for the murderer of her 'friend,' Grace (Nicki Aycox). I use the word friend lightly here since Ro and Grace had a falling out just before when Grace stole Ro's boyfriend.
But, when Grace is found murdered and a mysterious advertising mogul, Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis), is the prime suspect she goes under cover to get the killer.
Add Miles (Giovanni Ribisi) as Ro's computer geek/skeevy assistant and you should have an interesting mix.
The pace could have sped up a bit. They could have found at least one likable character. The best thing about the film is the music--some good stuff there, and a very twisty ending. (Unfortunately, I foresaw it)
Rebecca Kyle, December 2008
Not Barry's Best but good and gritty November 24, 2008 As this movie runs It's course I was always drawn In with suspicions of what was the ending, and the way the movie has this dirty undertone that runs through It-Together these elements along with what I thought was a good plot grant It with flaws.(If you want bad enough you can pick the flaws out of any movie). And these two as best friend's? Not a good pairing.(Barry & her cohort) But It's good old fashioned entertainment. I was entertained and liked the gratitous sex with Barry. Willis Is good acting and makes his small role good. And to be real this movie deserves at least 3 stars. How It can be generating an average of less Is beyond me. Some of the complaints I've heard (Close ups by the director) ridiculous. Movies are made for widescreen now! This Is so worth the rental price. There are surprises nobody will see coming about all the characters. And of course the best surprise of all at the end.
Perfect Stranger September 17, 2008 This movie at first was starting to evaluate the stars, afterwards the rest of movie was thrilling and suspenseful. Halle Berry very good actress.
